Message to all our American friends. – Anybody wanting to know about our healthcare just needs to ask us. They shouldn’t listen to the garbage being spouted by the nutcases.
- Our healthcare is no more rationed than anybody else’s.
- Based on a number of measures it’s more effective than the American model, at less than half the cost.
- Our services are at least as accessible as yours, if not more so.
For us, and the rest of Europe, the fact some people can’t pay is a moral responsibility, not an opportunity to assert social supremacy.
There is a downside to this of course. We don’t have anything like as many people making as much money out of manipulating the politics and exploiting the sick poor as you guys.
We do have private health insurance and private hospitals for those who can afford to pay. In some cases they may achieve a marginal benefit over NHS patients for elective treatment (?). But when it gets to the serious stuff – acute and long term chronic care – it’s the NHS which gets the job.
Our insurance companies, just like yours, are happier taking premiums than they are paying claims.
It’s our National Health System and not your political football.
