• It’s about applying our expertise in ways which solve their problems, and earning their trust so they’re confident doing business with us.  It’s about using the new social tools to meet people.  And it’s about doing it, mostly for free.

And Widespread Solutions offers consulting and services to help businesses in the North of Scotland do exactly that.

Actually we’ve spent the last 18 months finding out all the stuff the Internet Marketing businesses claim to know, but probably don’t.

Obviously there are highly professional marketing consultants who know exactly what they’re doing.  We just haven’t been able to find them.

Our story started back in 2007 when we decided to turn a piece of experimental software into an on line application which would create a platform for a whole new business paradigm.  (This isn’t the place to explain just what, but we do that elsewhere).

All of the marketing companies we went to, on both sides of the Atlantic, claimed to have the answer to our questions and needs.  Unfortunately they didn’t understand those questions and weren’t interested in the needs.

Having spent too much money with the most credible agency we could find, and been horribly disappointed at the returns, we decided our only option was “do it ourselves”.

That’s tough to do when you have no idea how to do it.  But we’ve spent the last 18 months finding out.

Luckily there are people out there who share some of what they know, so they can sell the rest.

There are also a host of new businesses providing free services, so that we’ll buy the upgrades.

And there are genuine experts out there who are happy to help the newbies.

So that’s how we got to where we are  - as near to expert as anybody can be in an environment which changes daily.  And it’s how we’ll stay there.

In the process of learning to help ourselves we’ve developed a capability to help other people.
